According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Myanmar Ambassador expressed that atomic energy represents a viable alternative energy source to address the local energy shortage.

Min Thein, Myanmar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, Austria, articulated it during the IAEA Board of Governors meeting.

It is also stated that Myanmar has been trying to implement the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan and struggling to supply necessary energy to the people and to the industries.

During this implementation process, Myanmar has consistently prioritized selecting environmentally-friendly technologies, and atomic energy stands out as a potential energy alternative to address the country's energy shortage with minimal environmental impact.

Myanmar Ambassador continued that the country is looking forward to getting help and support from the IAEA to solve the local energy shortage.

In the realm of Atomic Energy, the Myanmar Government and the Russian Government are actively collaborating following the agreement on "Cooperation in the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy." This collaboration includes a memorandum of understanding on the development of training and expertise in the field of nuclear energy, as well as two additional memorandums of understanding on cooperation in order to achieve a positive public opinion on nuclear energy.

It is also reported that the Nuclear Technology Information Centre was opened in Yangon last February.
