The Shanni Nationalities Unity Association (SNUA) stated that the Kachin terrorists ‘KIA’ footholds in the Tawlawgyi Village located in Myitkyina where they force Shanni ethnics to be used as the human shields in the village by prohibiting the Shanni ethnics to leave.

On 15 December, the Kachin terrorists KIA raided the Tarlawgyi Village and reinforced their troops within the village.

The KIA does not permit the Shanni ethnics from the village to leave though the KIA allowed Kachin ethnic villagers to depart. Therefore, the Shanni ethnics who are used the human shields by the KIA have to hide in the surrounding areas of the village when fire exchange occurred.

A Shanni ethnic who currently lives in Yangon informed NP News, "We’ve got contact with my family members who remain in the village. I can still reach them by phone and I'm deeply concerned for their safety. The groups that invaded the village are preventing the villagers from leaving and are using them as human shields. They're restricted to evacuating and trapped there."

Notwithstanding, the Kachin ethnics from Tarlawgyi Village have been allowed evacuating since 17 December. Most of them are heading to Waingmaw Township, the report says.

At present, fire exchange is occurring at the Tarlawgyi Village including firing with heavy improvise devices. Therefore, explosions occurred within the village. Monastery, pagodas and residential houses in the village are destroyed.

In addition, the Shanni ethnics within the village, who were prohibited to evacuate by the KIA terrorists, were wounded due to the clashes, and explosions of heavy weapons in the village.

Therefore, the SNUA demanded and informed the relevant entities not to use the Shanni ethnics as the human shields.
