The Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC) announced that actions are taken against the Yangon Bus System drivers who disable the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) device, and these drivers may face dismissal.

Joint Secretary of the YRTC, Lian Cin Mang, made this statement during a recent press conference held at the YRTC.

It has been reported that a total of 95 bus lines operate with 3,800 buses equipped with the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) device, allowing the use of Yangon Payment Services (YPS) cards.

The YRTC has announced its intention to terminate the YBS drivers who either disable the AFC devices or cover them with plastic bags.

"Some drivers wrapped the device in plastic bags, while others shut those devices down. We will be taking action against those drivers," said Lian Cin Mang.

He also urged the passengers to inform them if they come across YBS buses with turned-off AFC devices or covered in plastic bags.

In Yangon, over 132 bus lines are operational, serving approximately 1.5 million passengers daily.
