Almost 200,000 MT of rice, broken rice exported in December; border export dives

According to the statement released by the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) on January 3, nearly 200,000 metric tons of rice and broken rice were exported in December 2023.

In the given period, 101,156 metric tons of rice and 94,672 metric tons of broken rice, altogether 195,828 tons in total were exported.

Amongst, 187,829 metric tons were exported by sea, and 8,000 metric tons were exported by border trade posts, according to the statistics.

Rice and broken rice export via the border trade post has been dived in December comparing to those exporting in the previous months since the figure was only 8,000 metric tons in December whereas it was 18,000 metric tons in November.

Myanmar exported rice to 23 countries including China, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Poland in December.

In addition, the broken rice was exported to 14 countries, including Belgium, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam; and mostly to China.

Myanmar earned US$99 million from rice and broken rice export in December.

Since Myanmar exported 2.4 million tons of rice, the country stands the fifth in the world rice exporter list in 2022-23.

The MRF expects to send two million tons of rice and broken rice in the 2023-24 fiscal year and over 600,000 tons of rice and broken rice were exported within eight months up to the end of October in 2023.
