Beyond Tears: Myanmar Comedy Association values laughter with new awards ceremony

The Myanmar Comedians' Association (Central) hosted the 14th respect-paying ceremony for elderly comedians on July 7th at the MICC II Plenary Hall in Nay Pyi Taw. The event also included the inaugural Outstanding Comedian Artists' Award Ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, the Chief of the Tatmadaw True News Information Team , Deputy Minister of Information and his wife, the Chairman of the Myanmar Comedians’ Association U Dein Daung, the Vice Chairman U Ohn Thee, U Nyein Chan and members of the association, honored elderly comedians and entertainers.
Renowned entertainers Academy Myint Myat, Khin Hlaing, Soe Thu, directors Maung Thi and Ko Zaw (Ahrr Yone Oo), Htoo Khant Kyaw, Yone Lay, Moe Yan Zun, May Thann Nu, May Thin Zar Oo, Soe Myat Nanda, Yin Lat, Ponenami, and Ma Ma Saung attended the event and graced the event with their performances.
"This is the 14th time we have worked hard every year for the Elder's Day ceremony. We have been planning for a long time to hold an Outstanding Comedian Artists' Award Ceremony for our comedians, and today, we have finally succeeded. There are many comedians like us who are really funny but haven't won an Academy Award. It feels like you have to make people cry to be appreciated. For example, Ko Khin Hlaing is a very talented comedian, but despite his really funny jokes, he hasn't won an Academy Award yet. That's their standard, not ours. As a comedy association, we will give awards to actors if they are good at comedy, comedians if they are good, and amateurs if they are good at comedy," said Chairman U Dein Daung.
The Comedy Excellence Awards ceremony was held for the first time this year, in 2024. The Academy Excellence Award for 2022-2023 went to Academy Myint Myat and Khin Hlaing, who brought laughter and joy to the audience. The Social Excellence Award was given to actor Htoo Khant Kyaw. Director Maung Thi and Director Ko Zaw (Ahrr Yone Oo) received the Best Comedy Creation Awards. Additionally, Moe Nyo, Ohn Dine, and Mamee Thet received the Most Popular Comedy Creation Awards on social platforms.
