Phyo (NP News) - Feb 6
Reports stated that Othman Hashim, the former diplomat from Malaysia who serves as the ASEAN Special Envoy to Myanmar, will be arriving in Naypyidaw for a three-day visit.
From February 6 to 8, the ASEAN Special Envoy will meet with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC), as well as other senior officials, according to diplomatic sources.
Othman Hashim, a former Permanent Secretary of the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a veteran diplomat, was appointed as the ASEAN Special Envoy on January 19, and this is his first trip to Myanmar.
Former ASEAN Special Envoys, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Alounkeo Kittikhoun from Laos, met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing during their tenures.
Malaysia has previously stated that during its ASEAN chairmanship, it will prioritize the Myanmar peace process, which has seen only limited progress.
The focus will be on discussions related to ceasefire, inclusive political dialogue, and providing humanitarian assistance.
