Phyo (NP News) - Feb 6

Today (February 6), the Myanmar Embassy in Washington DC announced that foreign nationals, including Myanmar, in the United States may face deportation. The embassy urged individuals to prepare their plans to stay within the U.S. in accordance with their own circumstances.
In a statement issued by the Myanmar Embassy in Washington DC, it was highlighted that if Myanmar nationals in the U.S. experience visa expiration, they may be considered undocumented immigrants and could face deportation by the host country. The embassy has therefore warned that individuals in this situation should take steps to plan their stay in the U.S. according to their personal circumstances.
Additionally, the embassy emphasized that if an individual does not have residency documentation or has entered the country illegally, they should leave the U.S. before deportation is proceeded by the U.S. authorities.
Moreover, if an individual does not have any travel document for their return to Myanmar, or if their passport has expired for an extended period, they may apply for a certificate of identity. The application form and necessary documents can be obtained from the embassy's website, and those affected are encouraged to contact the embassy promptly via email or phone for further assistance, as stated in the announcement.
Recently, the U.S. government announced that more than 1.4 million people who have violated U.S. immigration laws or stay in the country illegally are subject to deportation. Among those on the deportation list, 679 Myanmar nationals are included, according to information released by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
