Mekong-Ganga, India-Myanmar food festival draws massive crowd

Yangon – The Mekong-Ganga, India-Myanmar food festival was held at the Secretariat, Yangon, on February 23 from 3pm to 9 pm.

That food festival was organized by Myanmar Women Entrepreneurs Network (MYANWEN) and Indian Women’s Association of Yangon aiming to attract public awareness with regional traditional foods of India and Myanmar, to strengthen friendship between the two countries through cultural exchange, and to develope local micro, small and medium enterprises.

The opening ceremony was attended by officials including Union Minister of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism U Kyaw Soe Win, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay, and Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Abhay Thakur.

The ceremony included lighting the lamp, delivering speeches by officials, and cutting the ribbon, as well as entertaining the festival attendees with traditional Indian-Burmese dances.

The Mekong-Ganga, India-Myanmar food festival features 46 stalls selling traditional Burmese and Indian food and products.

In addition, it has been known that the proceeds from the food festival will be used for charitable purposes.
