It has been reported that the two countries signed nine agreements at the fifth Myanmar-Russia Intergovernmental Trade and Economic Cooperation Commission meeting.

The fifth Myanmar-Russia Intergovernmental Trade and Economic Cooperation Commission meeting was held on February 23 at the Myanmar International Convention Center (2) in Naypyidaw, led by the co-chairs of the Commission, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Kan Zaw and Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Mr. Maxim Reshetnikov.

The commission meeting was divided into four parts: a closed-door meeting, a plenary session, a memorandum signing ceremony, and an economic forum.

During the plenary session, Union Minister Dr. Kan Zaw emphasized the notable growth in Myanmar-Russia trade and investment ties since the State Administration Council (SAC) took office. He mentioned that Myanmar's partnership with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) would open doors to European markets, while Russia could enhance its presence in Asian markets. He also encouraged Russian investors to engage in the development of Myanmar’s transportation sector, industrial modernization, and infrastructure growth.

Russian Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Maxim Reshetnikov, noted that since the fourth commission meeting, there have been significant advancements in bilateral cooperation, extending beyond trade and investment to include infrastructure projects and collaboration in the banking sector. He stressed that Russian markets continue to remain accessible to Myanmar businesses and that the Russia-Myanmar Economic Forum will persist in creating networking opportunities for entrepreneurs from both countries.
