Phyo/ Thant Zin (NP News) - March 1
A monk was killed by a group of PDF terrorists in Kyunhla Township, Sagaing Region, claiming to be an informant (locally called Dalan), according to sources close to the security forces.
The incident occurred at around 6 am on February 27 in Sarkyin Village, located on the Kyunhla- Thaphanseik road, about 10 miles from Kyunhla Township.
The PDFs reportedly arrived in the village and killed Sayadaw U Nandia, who was 85 years old and had 45 years of monastic experience.
It is reported that Sayadaw was accused of being an informant or "Dalan" and was killed because he had spoken in sermons about the difficulties faced by social, economic, and social welfare matters due to the road blockades in Kanbalu, Kyunhla, Shwebo, and Khin-U Townships, which were imposed by the PDF groups.
The monk died at the scene of the killing, and a house in the village was also burned down by the PDF terrorists.
“We know that they are making an example of us by not supporting them. Because of what they are doing, the villagers are hiding. We are seeing a lot of suffering,” a local told The Statesman.
Currently, security forces are continuing their investigations to identify and arrest the perpetrators and effectively punish them in accordance with the law. –
