AA conducts mandatory conscription for all adults

 235

The Arakan Army (AA) is reportedly recruiting young Rakhine men in Kyauktaw and Mrauk-U townships in Rakhine State for military service.
Men must be between the ages of 18 and 45, and women must be between the ages of 18 and 35. The military service period is two years, with recruitment conducted through a draw.
It is also reported that the AA's military service order will soon be explained to the public by the political and administrative departments. Political leaders and regional administrators in some areas have already begun informing the public that the mandatory service will last up to 24 months, which will run through the emergency period.
At present, the AA currently controls 14 townships in Rakhine State: Thandwe, Ramree, Buthidaung, Rathedaung, Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Minbya, Mrauk-U, Myebon, Pauktaw, Maungdaw, Ann, Toungup, Gwa, and Paletwa townships in Chin State. In these townships, the AA controls administration, jurisdiction, education, and health services.
However, some young people are concerned about the current recruitment process, with some aspects still unclear to the public. There is uncertainty over whether the recruitment is solely for military training or full military service, and the benefits of recruitment remain unclear as well.
The Arakan Army killed at least 900 individuals of Tatmadaw family, on February 8th 2024 in Kaladan River, who retreated from Kyauktaw. –
