Htet Nadi (NP News) – April 27
The Naypyitaw State Academy, which was built in 2020 in accordance with the international standard operation procedures (SOPs) to withstand earthquakes up to 7 on the Richter scale, sustained minor damage during the recent Mandalay earthquake.
The minor damage was inspected by the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Commander-in-Chief Soe Win on the afternoon of April 20.
It is reported that the Vice Chairman inspected the damages to the following buildings: the Postgraduate and Administrative Main Building, the Medical Education Building, the Economics Education Building, two Arts and Science Education Buildings, and the Economics and Social Sciences Education Building.
According to the inspections, the main columns and beams were completely undamaged, while some of the brick walls were plastered and cracked. The repairs were ordered to be completed before the university reopens in June.
In addition, the graduation hall and the six-story building under construction were not damaged according to the inspection of the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies, the Engineering Council, and earthquake experts.
The completed and under-construction buildings at Naypyitaw State Academy were built according to the Ministry of Construction's 2020 International SOP design, which allows them to withstand earthquakes up to 7 on the Richter scale. Currently, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Construction are working together to construct buildings based on a newly revised design that can withstand earthquakes up to 8 on the Richter scale.
