Four civilians were injured when a landmine, allegedly planted by members of the KNU/PDF militant groups, exploded near Boakar Village in Kyaikto Township, Mon State.
Militant groups have reportedly been carrying out coordinated attacks targeting roads, bridges, departmental offices, and civilian areas using rockets, heavy weapons, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). These attacks have included harassment of trucks, passenger vehicles, and private cars, with the stated aim of disrupting state stability, undermining law and order, and creating fear among civilians and tourists.
According to the State Administration Council (SAC), the incident occurred around 9:30 am on June 12. A WISH vehicle driven by Myo Min Khant, traveling from Theinzayat to Kyaikto, was carrying one male and two female tourists when it was hit by an explosive device on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway near Boakar village. All four individuals in the vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to Kyaikto General Hospital for medical treatment by local authorities.
The SAC also stated that some media outlets have been circulating misinformation, falsely claiming the incident occurred while a Tatmadaw convoy was being targeted, and that civilian casualties were unintended.
Authorities further reported that militant groups often plant various types of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on public roads and conduct remote-controlled attacks, frequently resulting in civilian casualties and property damage.
In response to the incident, security forces are conducting mine clearance operations and have increased patrols and protective measures along the affected route to ensure the safety of travelers, particularly tourists. –
