Authority to re-build Kengtung palace which was demolished by SPDC

A replica of Kengtung Palace (Hawnang) which was owned by the Shan Saopha (Sawbwa) SaoKawng Kiao Intaleng in the bygone era will be reportedly built by the current state authority.
The palace will be built in the land where the original palace’s garden and compound were located near Naung Tong Lake, Kengtung township, Shan State.
Chairperson of the State Administration Council (SAC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the stone-laying ceremony of the rebuilding project of the Kengtung palace’s replica on February 17.
The project is going to be developed in favourable to the wishes of the relatives of SaoKawng Kiao Intaleng, aspiration of the Kengtung residents, and as per the guidance of the Chair of the SAC.
The Shan Saopha SaoKawng Kiao Intaleng built the historic Kengtung Palace in 1906. It was demolished in 1991 by former military leader Senior General Than Shwe.
The palace compound was later renovated into Kengtung Hotel.
Likewise, palaces from Mongpong township and Theinni township have been renovated in recent years as the original buildings have deteriorated. Renovation of Mongpong palace was fully finished in February 2021 while that of Theinni palace is currently 60 percent finished, according to the Chair of the SAC.
