NP News - July 14
Pete Vowles, Chargé D'Affaires at the British Embassy in Yangon was expelled to leave the country yesterday (July 13), according to his Twitter post.
“My time in Myanmar comes to an abrupt end today. Sad & sorry to have been forced by the junta to leave but glad we didn’t cave to pressure to legitimize their brutal coup.” He added, “I know the wonderful, strong & committed @ukinmyanmar team will continue to stand up & do everything we can for the people of Myanmar who want nothing more than peace, freedom & justice.”
A diplomatic dispute has arisen between the two countries with regard to the appointment of Pete Vowles as a diplomatic envoy.
Myanmar authorities had refused the visa entry of Pete Vowles in recent months.
According to sources close to Naypyidaw Administration, Pete Vowles was allowed to enter the country as per his request to pack up his staff to make a final leave. But he stayed more than weeks representing his rank as the chargé d'affaires.
