An elaborate hoax with ill-intension to spark fear and insecurity among people has just spread about possible armed clashes in #Kokang Self-Administered Zone’s capital #Laukkai city in recent days.
The rumor triggered the massive displacement of migrant workers and residents.
However, the local administration body of Kokang territory released a statement yesterday on the regional stability urging the residents not to believe the misleading rumors that are triggering a panic atmosphere among the public.
Transportation fares from Laukkai to other places skyrocketed due to false information about the possible war in the Kokang territory as thousands of people left Laukkai.
In 2015, an armed conflict that lasted three months from early February to early May occurred between the Myanmar Military and the #MNDAA (Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army) in Laukkai and surrounding areas.
“We don’t want war anymore. Our country has already been ground down by the economic and financial crisis. If the war broke out again, there wouldn’t be any economic development. We don’t want war anymore. All of this turmoil can just worsen our life.” one of the local people from Laukkai recounted to NP News.
The regional news reported that sporadic armed clashes have just occurred between the MNDAA and the Myanmar Military since late November.
