The National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (#NSPNC) sent a notification letter heading to the senior leaders of the Karen National Union: Saw Mutu Say Poe and Karen National Liberation Army’s Chief of Staff General Saw Johnny to supervise the actions of the armed wings of the #KNU including KNDO and KNLA.
The NSPNC sent the letter on 6th February.
The letter said that although the KNU isn’t involved in the ongoing peace process, the Military and the KNU have met in the informal meeting. The State government conducted humanitarian assistance for Kayin region.
The NSPNC also included in the notification letter that since the KNU is one of the NCA signatories, it has been removed from the list of unlawful associations. However, it is unacceptable to witness that the military commands of KNU, KNDO and its joint forces #PDF are intruding civilian areas, sabotaging departmental offices, bridges, infrastructures and conducting terrorist acts. Consequently, those who are now suffering are only the innocent civilians.
There are seven brigades under the command of the KNU. Amongst, brigade 6 and 7 actively involve in the insurrection, providing military training to the PDFs and cooperate in committing the terrorist attacks targeting the civilians. Other brigades, in fact, do not.
As per reports, the KNU military commands, especially brigade 6 and 7, and the PDF joint forces committed together a total of 116 terrorist acts including sabotaging infrastructures like roads, bridges, electric towers and buildings with bombs, artilleries and guns between 1st February 2021 to 31st January 2023. They were 116 times of mine explosion in Kayin State, 317 times of mine explosions in Mon State and 662 times in Bago Region; in total, 1095 times.
The NSPNC also mentioned that re-development processes of Kayin State will definitely be carried out by the Central Government when the political atmosphere are restored to normalcy. The letter concluded that the KNU senior leaders are notified to supervise the lower battalions by considering the abovementioned situations.
