Immigration Ministry says over 700,000 populations entered in biometric system

The Union Minister of Immigration and Man Power, Myint Kyaing, informed that the ministry has registered biometric data for more than 700,000 populations so far.
He informed the information on August 15 in Naypyidaw during the meeting with departmental officers.
The e-ID system is very basic for the e-government and therefore, the authorities are trying to get biometric information which plays a key in the e-system.
According to the ministry, it is the process collecting biographic and biometric data of the citizens above 10 years old; neutralized citizens; associate citizens; permanent residents; and foreigners who regularly pay tax; then, providing the unique ID numbers to the individual with 10 digits.
The process was started in Naypyidaw collaborating with relevant ministries and departments. According to the Union Minister Myint Kyaing, authorities have collected and entered data with full information for 700,000 people across the country as of August 10.
The Immigration and Man Power Ministry will also take national census in 2024.
