First 500 KV power plant in Myanmar to finish in coming 2024

The first project of 500 KV power plant in Myanmar namely “Kan Kaung” will be finished in coming October, 2024.

The Union Minister for the Ministry of Electric Power (MOEP) Nyan Htun visited to the Kan Kaung power plant construction sites on October 23.

At present, 73.17 percent of 500KV power plant project has finished and it is expected to complete in October 2024.

The 500 KV Kan Kaung power plant project is an important project in the country's electricity transmission sector, and the schedules for the activities to be completed according to the remaining activities should be drawn up and carried out according to the schedule, the Union Minister informed.

“At present, we use 230 KV power line of the electric power. But for this, 500 KV power line can distribute more electricity more than 230 KV. Giving example, 230 KV can distribute about 200 MW and 500 KV can distribute 300 or 400 MG. The cable use in 500 KV will be larger,” an official form MOEP told NP News.

500 KV Kan Kaung power plant is the first 500 KV power plant project in Myanmar that is distributing electricity from the northern part of the country to the southern part upon completion.
