One of the responsible personnel from Myanmar Sugar & Cane Related Products Association said “From Vietnamese side, they sent us a proposal through email. After that, Indonesia also sent us the proposal. The demand of sugar is increasing globally. Therefore, there are many counties proposing for sugar purchase.”
Prioritizing on the domestic consumption for the time being, sugar will be exported only in upcoming sugarcane season.
Vietnam is the major buyer of Myanmar Sugar whereas sugar syrup is being exported to China through border trade.
According to the association, there are about 23 sugar factories in Myanmar, and about 4 million tons of sugar has been produced for this year. Before the sugar season of upcoming December, about one million ton of sugar is still left to be produced.
