Khit/ Myo Gyi (NP News) – Oct 18

The Union Election Commission (UEC) will conduct in accordance with law on political parties without unequal treatment, according to the chairman of UEC, Thein Soe.

On October 16, UEC’s chairman Thein Soe gave this information during the meeting with leaders and chairmen from 37 political parties that have registered and approved by the UEC.

The UEC chairman said that the political parties have been informed and notified to review the lists of the party members since some of them were scrutinized conformity with the criteria set by the UEC.

In addition, the political parties that were allowed to register will complete the 180-day period, in October, within which they have to accomplish the duties that were determined by the UEC during those specific timeframes such as opening offices and signboard hanging ceremony.

The chairman Thein Soe said that political parties must comply with existing laws, rules, orders, and instructions in preparing for the election.

Dr. Aye Maung, the chairman of the Arakan Front Party, told that the UEC chairman Thein Soe didn’t mention when the election would be held. However, according to Dr. Aye Maung, voter lists are expected to be prepared in a short time in the pre-election period based on the national census.

In 2024, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC), has stated that the election will be held as soon as possible after the completion of the national census in 2024.
