Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated in his speech to honouring the 76th Independence Day on 4 January that it would be preferred to build the nation with federal system which is based on the region instead of ethnicity.

“When building the union with democratic and federal system, we should consider to exercise the federal system based on the region/ territory rather than the ethnicity,” Senior General said.

He added that the leaders, rulers and the governed public: those all stakeholders should be wise, competent and should have enough thinking skills when building the federal democratic union. Therefore, he urged to uplift the education sector to be comprehensive from which the human intellectuals will be produced for the country.

“If you ask the stakeholders who are involved in the current armed conflicts, or the racial-oriented armed forces, or the political parties to get their opinions on this (federal system based on region instead of ethnicity), I don’t think they will accept it, nor the public too. It is better to promote this only after a thorough review on the possible consequences. In my opinion, dark sides outweigh bright side. It will help igniting the current situations,” Dr. Aye Maung, the Chairman of Arakan Front Party (AFP) remarked.

He argued that the leaders should not say, at the time being, to build the region-based federal system rather than that of ethnicity based.

At present, the country has been stuck in armed conflicts between Tatmadaw and ethnic armed forces and PDF terrorists.
