Myanmar, India discuss promoting bilateral trade through Sittwe port

The Chairman of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) received Mr. Ashish Sharma from the Indian Embassy in Myanmar and Mr. Rathendra Raman, the Chairman of Kolkata Port, on January 23 and discussed promoting the bilateral trade through the Sittwe port

During the meeting, the officials discussed the development of bilateral trade through Sittwe Port, as well as opportunities to increase trade and export to regional countries, and to obtain more business opportunities.

In addition, they also discussed promoting India-Myanmar bilateral trade and upgrading existing projects by making maximum use of Sittwe Port. Other topics discussed in the talk involved improving employment opportunities and transportation.

An Indian cargo ship, which operated for the first time between India and Sittwe Port, arrived at Sittwe Port in Rakhine State on 9 May 2023.

The Sittwe Port is part of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, which will be constructed at a cost of nearly US$ 500 million as a cooperation between India and Myanmar.
