Mingalarzay Market construction completes 72 percent

According to the officials from the Engineering Department under Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), the construction of new Mingalarzay Market has been finished 72 percent of the total project.

The new Mingalarzay Market will involve 17 stories including 2 basements. There are a total of 4,065 shop stalls constructing in the first phase. From the ground level to the 4th floor of the project is constructed by the YCDC, the report states.

The shops that will be handed over to the YCDC have 5 square feet area each. The shops involved in the second phase will have 10 square feet area each and there will also be 20 escalators and lifts. The new Mingalarzay Market is being constructed mainly by the San Myat Tun Company and the whole project is projected to be finished in 2025.

Although the construction was commenced in 2018, it failed to finish within the targeted timeframe due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Upon completion of construction, the market will involve 17 floors, two parking lots, restaurants, banks and supermarkets, shops, car accessories, warehouses, offices and a movie theater.
