On October 31, at around 9:50 pm, it was reported that in the Ohnnapaung village, about four miles north of Ye-U township in Sagaing Region, a 47-years old Buddhist monk, U Paindaka Siri was killed by PDF terrorists.
The monk had participated in protests against the government during the early days of 2021 political transition, leading individuals who later killed him. It is also reported that he maintained good relations with the PDFs.
On the evening of October 30, some PDFs taking refuge at the monastery, along with a novice, consumed alcohol despite the monk's ban. On the night of October 31, after drinking heavily, they became intoxicated and accused the monk of being a Dalan (traitor). And then, the monk was arrested and killed under torture by the PDF terrorist at the monastery.
“The PDFs arrived around 7:30 pm, each armed, and broke down the doors to force their way into the monastery. By 9 pm, when the village elders returned, they found the PDF groups in a drunken state. The monk was being tortured under the reason of forbidding alcohol consumption and was accused of being a Dalan. The PDFs, intoxicated, ignored any attempts to mediate and declared that they would do anything for the revolution, shouting that anyone who opposed them was an enemy and that there was no law in the revolution. After that they killed the monk in front of village elders at around 9:30 pm,” reported a local resident.
Similarly, on September 16, a 62-year-old monk was killed by a PDF terrorist group in Myittha Township, Mandalay Region, and his motorcycle, phone, and money were taken.
According to the government’s information, from February 1, 2021, to the present, the total number of monks who have been killed or gone missing across the country has reached more than 140.
