Reports from the real estate sector indicate that renting houses in Yangon by the foreigners have increased following the crackdown on telecom frauds at present in Thai-Myanmar border.
Authorities are investigating and identifying those involved in illegal online gambling, online fraud, and other serial crimes in the Shwekokko and KK Park areas of Myawaddy, Kayin State, and are working to extradite them to their respective countries.
Although the combating activities are processing, some information report that the online scam businesses seek to extend to Yangon from the border regions.
A local resident said: “I have seen foreigners, maybe Chinese, moved to Mingalardon in Yangon Region. They don’t speak Burmese. I’m not sure whether they are from Myawaddy or Lashio. The relevant local authorities should monitor those persons thoroughly.”
He also suggested that security personnel responsible for checking travel documents at city entrances and relevant ward/village administrators should take tight security measures these days.
The State Administration Council has announced that the government will continue to investigate and take action in collaboration with international organizations, including neighboring countries, to prevent and combat illegal online scams and financial fraud in Myanmar's border areas. –
