Although there have been no reported cases of Niphah virus infection in Myanmar, the Ministry of Health issued a notification on January 26 stating that anyone experiencing symptoms of the virus should seek the necessary examination and treatment at a health center.
It was informed that Myanmar is an area where fruit-eating bats or megabats, which are the primary host species of Niphah virus, are abundant, and borders countries in the region where infections often occur.
Therefore, the public has been advised not to travel unnecessarily to areas where Nipah virus infections are currently occurring. Those who are already in affected areas are also advised to avoid unnecessary visits to hospitals in those areas or to places where there are large numbers of sick people.
In addition, those who have recently traveled to areas where the disease is occurring and are returning to their home country are advised to immediately report to airport health departments or on-duty health officials at border entry and exit points if they experience suspected symptoms such as high fever, headache, cough, breathing difficulties, confusion, or drowsiness.
If individuals return from affected areas and experience suspected symptoms within 14 days, they are advised to immediately contact the nearest health department, clearly inform the doctor of their travel history to affected areas, and receive necessary testing and treatment in a timely manner.
Similarly, any family whose member has returned from a country where the disease is present and exhibits suspicious signs of the disease, or who has witnessed any unusual deaths of animals including pigs or bats in the living environment should inform the nearest health center immediately, the ministry advised. –
