Giant mining company ‘Myanmar Wanbao’ released a denouncement statement on June 27 regarding the attack at the Letpadaung mining area with long-range weapons by the militants.
“Letpadaung Project was attacked by the militants. Several grenades were fired with long-range weapons at the mining area, and the high-voltage power supply tower was sabotaged,” the statement says.
Productions at the site have been halted since February 2021. Despite it, the company continues offering financial and moral support to its employees. It says, “Some Myanmar workers have chosen to stay at the mine site for maintenance and to support their families.”
The statement continues, “Destruction of the high-voltage power tower could harm entire communities. We cannot underscore this point strongly enough.” The company calls upon all groups to abstain from pursuing such actions that put the people of Myanmar in danger.
The company does not get involved in any conflict but inspires peace and development in the communities. The statement says, “We call on ALL GROUPS, armed or otherwise, to respect the lives and livelihoods of our colleagues at the mine site. They have a right to make a choice.”
