The former chairman of the Union Election Commission (UEC) Hla Thein and the former member Myint Naing were released with bail and pledge.

A source form the Prison Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed to NP News that the former UEC chairman Hla Thein and the former member Myint Naing were released from Yamethin Prison on October 26 after being detained for a year.

The two former officers were charged three years imprisonment each under Section 130 (a) of the Penal Code for alleged electoral fraud in voting list preparations, advanced voting and failure to resolve the alleged frauds in July 2022.

There were records that the former UEC chairman Hla Thein and old member Myint Naing released directives to the sub-election commission at township level to prepare arrangements to resolve the alleged voting fraud in December 2020 as the military released statements and demanded clarifications on alleged electoral fraud.

The former president Win Myint summoned them and gave verbal command in a few days after releasing the abovementioned directives, records say.
