Union Betterment Party (UBP) led by the former Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw first term as well as a retired General Thura Shwe Mann has been announced abolished by the Union Election Commission on 27th October.
The UBP, as per the Central Executive Committee decision, submitted the UEC for the party abolishment on 11th October.
The UEC confirmed dissolving the UBP as per its Management Committee Meeting in accord with Section 19 (a) of the Political Party Registration Law.
The party intended to dissolve as almost all founders are getting old with poor health conditions, the chairperson Thura Shwe Mann formally announced. In addition, social and other general difficulties hindered them to continue in this political arena, which in turn, drove them to quit party politics.
The Union Betterment Party was established in 2019.
Thura U Shwe Mann is a retired military General. He ran in the 2010 General Election for the seat of Pyithu Hluttaw representative of Zeyar Thiri constituency in Naypyidaw. At that time, he represented the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and became the Speaker of the first-term Pyithu Hluttaw.
Thura Shwe Mann built a good relationship with the former State Counsellor Aung Sann Suu Kyi who is currently detained and facing court trials back in 2011-2016 Thein Sein Administration.
He ran again in the 2015 General Election but failed that time. Then, he left the USDP and established the UBP.
