Will sparkle balloons fly again over sky in Myanmar on Tazaundaing night?

Has stopped the rain, yet come the month ‘Tazaungmone’. So come the Tazaungdaing festival.

After two years Myanmar had suspended its celebrations of traditional festivals, the year 2022 resumes cultural events amid struggles and difficulties from Thingyan, Kason Water Pouring Celebration, Kathina to, now, #Tazaungdaing.

Tazaungdaing #fire_balloons festival are planned to recommence on 7,8 and 9 of November in Taunggyi and 4,5,6 and 7 of November in Pyin-Oo-Lwin, authorities announced.

Candle lighting, releasing fire balloons, weaving Mathoe robe at pagodas, Kathina and Cassia flower bud salad are the emblems of Tazaungdaing period.

Under normal situation, both domestic and foreign travelers enjoy releasing fire balloons on Tazaungdaing nights of Taunggyi and Pyin-Oo-Lwin; Kalaw has its own tradition for the festival known as “Mee Shaw Taing” in which they build a chandelier in traditional look with decorated lights with fireworks or firecrackers.

As the rainy days end in that month, the Kathina season normally begins now in which the people prepare Kathein tree which decorated with robes, alms, and offering things.

Celebration of Mathoe robe weaving is culturally and religiously associated festival in #Myanmar, involved a typical Tazaungdaing feature.

Pagodas convene robe-weaving competitions starting from night till dawn nonstop to offer the freshly weaved robes (locally known as Mathoe Thin Gan, which means the robe was weaved freshly, not a leftover one) to the monks.

Mothoe robe weaving at Yangon’s Shwedagon Pagoda, Botahtaung Pagoda and Mandalay’s Maha Myat Muni Pagoda are famous in non-stop weaving wool robes on Tazaungmone full moon night.
