The #People’s_Party, founded by former 88 student leader #Ko_Ko_Gyi, announced the merger with National Union Democratic Party (NUDP) which was established by Sein Win, the former Pyithu Hluttaw parliamentarian (represented by National League for Democracy).

The merger of the two political parties was publicized on February 28 during the press conference jointly held by the People’s Party and the NUDP at the headquarters of the People’s Party located at Yangon’s Yuzana Tower.

After dissolved the NUDP, unification will be established as the new People’s Party expecting to run nationwide in the upcoming election.

The NUDP’s Chairman Sein Win was elected in the 2015 General Election for the Pyithu Hluttaw seat representing NLD and appointed as a member of the Executive Committee of the NLD at Maubin Township during the NLD administration. However, he was dismissed from assigning responsibilities within the party by the NLD’s central members in 2017 for breaching the party’s rules. It was a controversial political debate over dismissing Sein Win from the party tasks by the central NLD at that time.

Before the 2020 General Election (the results of which had been annulled), Sein Win established the NUDP. Since then, the NUDP has been actively advocating for public issues related to farmers and land.

“Saya U Sein Win and his party members believe that cooperation of us is hoped to work more effectively at the Union level in today’s era with many conflicts. We, the People’s Party members, are very glad and appreciate merging with the NUDP,” Ko Ko Gyi, Chairman of the People’s Party, said.

Ko Ko Gyi recently highlighted the role and necessity of the political parties from the mainland despite threats and destructive forces that are trying to oppress the establishment of political parties in the mainland.

He urged the public to promote the roles of mainland political parties in the country’s political atmosphere.
