UEC and the Central Election Commission of Russia plan to sign MoU for matters relating to Myanmar election

Union Election Commission Chairman, Thein Soe, said that the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Union Election Commission and the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation in relation to election matters is under discussion.

H.E. Mr Sholban Kara-Ool addressed it during the meeting held at the reception hall of the UEC office in Naypyidaw on May 30.

The Chairman of the Union Election Commission Thein Soe explained matters relating to the preparations of the UEC for holding free and fair elections, and the practices to exercise the proportional representation system in the upcoming election during the meeting.

He also informed about the progress of signing Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Election Commission of Russia in election-related matters.

Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Mr. Sholban Kara-Ool told the Chairman of the State Administration Council, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing that Russia is giving support for Myanmar election process.

The UEC declared and pledged to hold free and fair election which all political parties, candidates and voters will have no excuse to deny.

The UEC also notified that legal measures have been prepared and will be enacted to prevent vote rigging as it evaluated over the weaknesses that were raised in the previous elections.

In addition, the chairman Soe Thein notified that the political parties will have the right to observe and cooperate with the voting process; continuing that the commission will deal with all political parties according to the law and will check the establishment and registration of political parties in accordance with the law.
