Inlay Floating Thingyan Festival makes joyous return boosting local businesses

According to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, the upcoming Inlay floating Thingyan Festival (2024) will be a joyous celebration held at the Inlay Central Hall, attracting a large crowd of participants.

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism released the news on April 6.

The Inlay floating water festival was first held in 2019 but was subsequently suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, in 2023, the festival was revived for the second time.

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has also announced that in 2023, both domestic tourists and foreigners enthusiastically participated in the Inlay Floating Thingyan Festival. This vibrant festival, held at the Inlay Lake in southern Shan State, witnessed increased revenue for businesses such as hotels, tourism, restaurants, motorboat transportation, and the sale of souvenirs and mementos.

This year's Inlay floating Thingyan festival will be held at the recently renovated Inlay Central Hall from April 13 to 16. Festivalgoers can enjoy traditional dance performances and can enjoy at food donation ceremonies.

According to a representative from the Southern Shan State Traditional Fire Balloon Technician Association, the venue for the festival was previously located in Nant Pan, but it has since been relocated, possibly due to changes in senior positions. Similarly, the location of the pavilion avenue in Taunggyi has also been changed.

It is also reported that the Inlay floating water festival will involve people splashing water from boats and rafts, accompanied by music and dance performances. Additionally, group dances and traditional dance competition from various ethnic groups will be featured.’
