Flood: Search continues for missing ones; at least 113 killed as of 15 Sep

“Due to the heavy rain, flooding, and landslides, there have been 113 deaths nationwide (as of 15 September), and efforts to search the missing persons are ongoing,” the State Administration Council’s spokesperson, Major General Zaw Min Tun said.

Concerning the recent flooding, landslides, and ongoing rescue efforts, the spokesperson shared the information to the media on September 15.

It has been reported that flooding and landslides have occurred in 56 townships, including areas in Naypyidaw, Kayah State, Kayin State, Bago Region, Magway Region, Mandalay Region, Mon State, Shan State, and some parts of Ayeyawady Region.

As of the evening of September 14, records showed that more than 72,900 households nationwide have been displaced by flooding and landslides, with 113 deaths confirmed.

Major General Zaw Min Tun reported that, “As of the evening of September 14, over 72,900 households nationwide have been displaced due to flooding and landslides. In total, more than 78,000 families have been affected, with over 320,000 individuals relocated to temporary shelters. The disaster has resulted in 113 deaths, 64 missing persons, and 14 injuries, with ongoing efforts to find the missing.”

Additionally, it is reported that the government is organizing and carrying out rescue and recovery operations related to natural disasters as quickly and effectively as possible.

Similarly, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement is offering financial aid for relief operations, covering costs for food and supplies, and providing financial support to the families of the deceased and those who have been injured.

The spokesperson mentioned that “The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement will offer financial aid for relief efforts, covering expenses for food and supplies, as well as providing monetary support for the deceased and injured. They will evaluate home damage and allocate aid according to the extent of destruction. At present, they will ensure food supplies for individuals in shelters. Donations can be made to assist with these relief operations.”

In addition, Major General Zaw Min Tun stated that certain destructive media and individuals targeting Myanmar are actively spreading rumors to incite further public fear and anxiety.

Additionally, Major General Zaw Min Tun reported that on September 14, during the evacuation of villages, west of Zayetgyi in the Taunggyi region, one military personnel and one police officer from the rescue team were swept away and are missing.
