Myanmar assumes rotating chairmanship of ACMECS next year

Republic of the Union of Myanmar will begin its term as the rotating chairperson of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) which is composed of five countries within the Mekong region in 2025.
At the 10th ACMECS summit held in Kunming, China, the current chairperson, the Prime Minister of Laos, handed over the rotating chairmanship to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister of Myanmar.
The ACMECS was established in 2003 in Bagan, Myanmar. Thus, it has now reached its 21st anniversary. Since its inception, the ACMECS has played a crucial role in promoting regional development reducing development gaps, and enhancing regional economic integration.
During the event, the Senior General emphasized that, in implementing the development plans and initiatives outlined in the ACMECS Master Plan, innovative strategies and practical, feasible funding mechanisms are needed to ensure successful implementation.
In addition, he also highlighted that Myanmar has always welcomed foreign investments with accountability and is committed to creating a mutually beneficial economic environment that fosters investment. In this regard, Myanmar has worked to streamline the process of business registration and facilitate smooth trade and investment channels.
“Myanmar will continue its efforts to elevate the ACMECS cooperation to a fully developed and prosperous region, following the path set by previous chairpersons. Upon assuming the new role of chairperson, he expressed hope that with the strong vision, support, and cooperation of all member countries, the challenges can be overcome and the objectives of the ACMECS will be successfully realized. He also looked forward to hosting the upcoming ACMECS summit in Myanmar, providing an opportunity to meet with fellow leaders,” the Chairman said at the summit.
