Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated that the three terrorist groups—the MNDAA (Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army), TNLA (Ta'ang National Liberation Army), and AA (Arakan Army)— have to express clear and decisive actions for peace before any discussions can take place with them.
Senior General made the above remark in the talk with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at Haigeng Garden Hotel in Kunming, China on 6 November.
The Army Chief also stressed that stability and development in border areas are crucial for regional and national development. “Only with peace and stability, can economic and trade cooperation be enhanced,” he remarked.
It is also important to eradicate and eliminate illicit activities, including illegal businesses and smuggling, which are supporting the financial status of armed groups in the border regions, Myanmar Commander-in-Chief highlighted during the talk.
Additionally, Myanmar and China signed seven Memoranda of Understanding on collaboration in various sectors during the visit.
The agreements involved matters related to the land rental of the Myanmar Consulate Office in Kunming City and the Chinese Consulate Office in Mandalay City; and upgrading training centers.
Other collaboration will cover agriculture, research and innovation, and sports sectors such as agreement on agricultural products' chemical residue removal and pest and disease control, and uplifting the sports sector. In addition, the Standardization Administration of China and the Department of Research and Innovation of Myanmar signed the related MOU for technical cooperation.
The Senior General also held bilateral talks with his counterparts of Cambodia and Laos during the visit. –
