Reports indicate that, in response to the deadly 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday, the European Union is releasing €2.5 million in initial emergency assistance.
This new humanitarian aid is aimed at saving lives and addressing the immediate needs of the most vulnerable populations in Myanmar, with a particular focus on displaced and conflict-affected communities.
The EU has also activated its Copernicus satellite service to aid in impact assessment efforts.
The EU is currently evaluating the situation on the ground to determine additional assistance that may be required.
With this new allocation, the EU’s total humanitarian aid funding for Myanmar in 2025 now exceeds €35 million.
