The national flag will be flown at half-mast for seven days starting today (March 31) to commemorate the powerful earthquake, according to a press release from the State Administration Council (SAC).
A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7-magnitude that struck at 12:51:02 pm on March 28 caused significant loss of life and damage.
In solidarity with the loss, the National Day of Mourning has been declared for seven days from today (March 31) to April 6, during which the national flag will be flown at half-mast.
The powerful earthquake has caused many casualties and damage to infrastructure in Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Naypyidaw Council Territory, Bago Region, and Shan State.
Since the earthquake began on March 28, at least 2,000 people have died, more than 3,000 have been injured, and hundreds of people are missing.
In addition, many pagodas and ancient religious buildings have collapsed and been destroyed.
Furthermore, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has reported that 37 aftershocks have occurred after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake.
