ASEAN Envoy makes early visit to Myanmar ahead of September mission

It has been reported that Mr. Othman Hashim, former Malaysian ambassador and the current ASEAN Special Envoy on Myanmar, arrived in Myanmar on August 17.
The National Defense and Security Council’s information team has not issued any official statement regarding the envoy’s visit.
Separately, reports indicate that an ASEAN delegation led by Malaysia’s Foreign Minister and including the foreign ministers of Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, which will assume the ASEAN chairmanship next year—plans to visit Myanmar in the third week of September 2025.
According to the reports, Mr. Othman Hashim’s early arrival in Naypyitaw is in preparation for that upcoming delegation visit.
