Phyo (NP News) - Sep 13
The Tatmadaw has reportedly regained full control in Bhamo town including some military headquarters, camps, and villages which were temporarily controlled by the KIA, AA, and PDF coalition.
The KIA, AA and PDF joint forces have been attacking and temporarily controlling the security posts in eastern Kachin State, Dawthponeyan town, Myothit town and Ta Seng village, which are located near the China-Myanmar border, since March 7, 2024, in order to control the Bhamo-Ta Seng-Myothit-Laiza road, Bhamo-Momauk-Ta Seng-Laiza road, and Bhamo-Momauk-Loije road.
After that, they attacked the local security battalion in Momauk town from April 24, 2024. Defeated by the Tatmadaw's defense, they retreated to Momauk town and the surrounding area on June 25.
Then, on July 24, 2024, the local battalion in Momauk was forced to join with the security forces in Bhamo to minimize casualties from enemy attacks involving more manpower, heavy weapons, drones, and drop bombs.
On August 20, military columns launched a counteroffensive against Momauk, inflicting heavy losses on the terrorist groups.
Similarly, the armed groups that temporarily took control of Mangshi launched a full-scale attack along the Mangshi–Bhamo route, resulting in clashes with local security forces in the southern part of Bhamo.
The terrorist groups then launched a sustained offensive against Bhamo with full force, but the eight-month resistance of the Tatmadaw from December 2024 to July 2025 ended the terrorist groups' military dream of completely capturing Bhamo.
Then, starting on August 4, 2025, the Tatmadaw advanced in seven columns and intensified its counterattacks in stages.
As a result of this phased offensive, the areas temporarily controlled by terrorist groups were completely regained control between August 4 and September 11, 2025.
During the operation, from December 4, 2024 to September 11, 2025, 16 major battles and 490 engagements with terrorist insurgents took place, and 163 bodies, 178 weapons, and related equipment were seized from the enemy.
According to the other reports, the terrorist groups suffered approximately 4,616 deaths and 4,983 injuries in the clashes.
As casualties among the terrorist insurgents have risen, an increasing number of insurgents armed with weapons, ammunition, and related equipment have reportedly surrendered to Tatmadaw units. The Tatmadaw will continue operations to clear the remaining insurgent groups from the Bhamo area. –
