Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) releases a statement today (May 5) and has denied attending the peace dialogue invited by the Chairperson of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
The KIO will be attending only under the situation in which all stakeholders that should be involved are invited to the peace talk having equality in the discussion, the KIO’s central committee’s statement said.
Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing invited the leaders of Ethnic Armed Organizations on April 22 saying that he will meet the EAOs’ leaders in person.
Lieutenant General Min Naung sent the reminder letters to the EAOs’ leaders to meet at the talk on May 2, according to the KIO’s central committee’s statement.
The KIO’s statement said to solve the political crisis through political discussion.
“The peace invitation does not include all stakeholders that should be involved and no clue is found to discuss and find a solution for the country’s affairs,” the statement expresses.
Kachin Independence Organization did not sign the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement and it frequently exchanged fire with the government’s security forces in recent months.
The leader of the Information Team of the SAC Major General Zaw Min Tun has urged the EAOs to attend the peace talk as this time is to discuss with only one person since the head of the government and the Chief Commander is only one person, saying EAOs should take advantage from this situation.
During the 13th press conference held in Naypyidaw on April 27, Major General Zaw Min Tun told that there are good conditions for the peace talk as 17 ethnic armed groups of both NCA signatory and non-signatory groups are potentially attending it.
