Myanmar has already achieved a promising guarantee of oil import from Russia and it would be a key factor in controlling rocketing petrol prices, Information Team leader of State Administration Council Major General Zaw Min Tun said.
Major General Zaw Min Tun addressed it during the press conference held yesterday (August 17) at the Ministry of Information in Naypyidaw.
A steering committee led by Lieutenant General Nyo Saw has been organized for purchasing fuel from Russia, storing, and distributing.
SAC Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing went to Russia in recent months and discussed bilateral relations including petroleum imports.
Major General Zaw Min Tun said “You might remember the Prime Minister’s trip to Russia. Lieutenant General Nyo Saw, who was appointed as the chair of the steering committee, also went along with him. We discussed the oil issue before that trip. We could finalize the agreement with Russia during that trip.”
Russia and Myanmar have been bolstering their bilateral tie. Myanmar has already achieved a guarantee from Russia with respect to petrol oil, the spokesperson added.
The Spokesperson continued, “I’m sure we can handle the oil prices since we will have the oil as much as we need,” adding that better conditions are coming.
State Administration Council admitted that the government failed to control the soaring prices of fuel in the country.
Myanmar will cooperate with China and other countries for petroleum excavation projects that will be cooperated with Russia.
