Myanmar’s Army Chief likely to meet with Russian President for very first time

Russian media reports that the Chairman of the State Administration Council and the Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing will reportedly hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Eastern Europe Forum (EEF), the Kremlin press service announced.
This possible meeting will be the very first time between the Commander-in-Chief and the Russian President.
The 7th EEF will be held in Vladivostok from September 5-8.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing left Naypyidaw on September 4 for Russia to attend the EEF. During his visit, the Army Chief will meet with Russian officials and will visit universities, factories, and workshops, the SAC Information Team said.
The leaders’ bilateral meeting will be on September 7, according to the Kremlin press service.
The Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services visited Russia at least three times after the military takeover on February 1, 2021.
Currently, the State Administration Council is carrying out its efforts to import petrol from Russia at a reasonable price so as to control the soaring prices of fuel within the country.
The two nations have already built a good relationship in military cooperation decades ago. Now the relations and ties have been bolstering between the two nations.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov conducted a formal visit to Naypyidaw in early August before his trip to the ASEAN meeting.
Myanmar’s Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Vice-Senior General Soe Win went to Russia in the last week of August to attend the closing ceremony of the International Army Games, in which, the Myanmar military team attained first prizes in group competitions.
Russia-Myanmar tie has been increasingly developed in many sectors including nuclear energy and cultural exchanges.
