Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister Myat Ko said during a meeting that was held on 17th October that the deep sea port project of the Dawei Special Economic Zone is expected to be resumed soon.
Tanintharyi Region government is providing its best efforts to successfully implement the deep sea port.
Experts from Thailand conducted a study to implement the deep sea port project in 2005. Then in 2008, Italian-Thai Development from Thailand and the Myanmar government signed the MoU on the project.
Although the Dawei SEZ has been started in 2008, no such significant progress is found yet. The government will invite new investments in accord with international procedures as the operation with the Italian-Thai has ended at present.
Having 20,000 hectares of land area, the Dawei SEZ will become the largest economic zone in Southeast Asia upon completion of the project.
Dawei Deep Sea Port; a 105-mile long 8-lane superhighway, railway, and power lines that will connect the industrial zone to Kanchanaburi, Thailand; and pipelines of oil and natural gas will have consisted in the project. Also, border entry zones will be involved in the project.
If Tanintharyi Region has many MSMEs, employment opportunities and livings for the locals will be uplifted, the Chairman of the State Administration Council Senior General Min Aung Hlaing recently said.
