YANGON- The Myanmar football national team is going to play home for the very first time within three years this evening at Yangon’s Thuwunna Stadium after the country has been stuck in global pandemic restrictions in 2020 and the political crisis in 2021-22.
The group matches of the ASEAN Cup 2022, also known as the #AFF_MISUBISHI_ELECTRIC_CUP_2022, will kick off today evening (December 21) wherein the Myanmar team will play against Malaysia and hosted at home. The group matches will go until January 3 while the final match will end on January 16.
Myanmar, unfortunately without experienced players, has prepared their best for the upcoming matches.
“First of all, I’m satisfied to play home within three years. We’ve prepared our best for this game. Starting lineup players are chosen from the preliminary national squads,” Myanmar coach Antoine Hey said.
Although the Myanmar team was defeated by Thailand 6-0 on December 11 match, the current Myanmar team of truly sportsmanship spirit, has conducted practices to their best to play the matches.
Experienced stars such as defender Zaw Min Tun, striker Kyaw Ko Ko and goalkeeper Kyaw Zin Htet refused to participate in the international matches for Myanmar in protest at the 2021 political transition when the national team was arriving in Japan for World Cup qualifier in May 2021.
With regard to play young and unexperienced members, the team leader Maung Maung Lwin said “I have nothing to comment on what they did. This is their own decisions and choices. However, I would say there is new generation in our country.”
The coach Antoine seeks fans’ support for his team, saying that we’ve prepare to correct mistakes and “I would like say the fans to support the Myanmar team.”
However, today match won’t allow audiences entering into the 32000-capacity Thuwanna Stadium for the security reason.
