The KNU’s chairman of Dupalaya District, #Padoh_Saw_Shwe_Maung released a voluntary statement that urges the current leaders of the Karen National Union (#KNU) and anti-government #NUG to take a negotiation route instead of armed conflicts.

He released the statement from his social media on 2nd January 2023.

In the statement, he requested the responsible personnel from the KNU and the NUG to stop taking hard power. He urged, instead of it, the opposition groups should take soft power and conduct the political talks.

He also stated that the Karen ethnic people have been suffering enough from the long-lasting civil war which only leads to poverty and a low standard of living.

He said that it is heartbreaking to see that the NUG and KNU are now taking the deeper route towards armed conflicts with hard power to deal with the political problems.

He reminded NUG and KNU not to forget the promises of bringing back betterment and peace to people’s life.

He urged them to take lessons from the past and remind them not to put the life of the people into deeper adversities and miseries.

Finally, he insisted all the stakeholders avoid armed conflicts and lead to peaceful talk since the whole Karen people are now thirsting for peace and are now fed up with civil war.

The State Administration Council has invited ethnic armed organizations to hold peace talks.
