United League of Arakan (ULA) as known as Arakan Army (AA) stated that running for general election is up to the individual political party and the AA has no comment on that whether support or object.

The Spokesperson of the AA Khine Thu Kha addressed it during the press conference held on 27th February.

Khine Thu Kha criticized that reflecting back on the experiences from prior elections, Rakhine people’s lives were not improved that much.

“Whether to run for the election or not is the matter of the political parties. However, according to the experiences from previous general elections, we did not find anything positive or supportive for the development of Rakhine people’s life. Therefore, we can see Rakhine people’s disappointment on it. For ULA/AA, we have no comments or objections on it.” Khine Thu Kha said.

He continued that general election is held to take into consideration of the people’s will and desire that people’s participation is the most important factor in general election.

“With the people’s support, the general election is to be held. When there is no such people’s support, the general election will be in vain. It won’t be legitimate. Therefore, for ULA/AA, we do not assume General Election as a practical egress to settle all the common problems of the whole Arakan people. Therefore, we have to take armed revolutionary way for our people.” Khine Thu Kha continued.

For the time being, the State Administration Council (SAC) is attempting to hold the General Election nationwide using Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system.

Recently, the SAC has issued the new law for Political Party Registration and some of the political parties are submitting registration form at the Union Election Committee (UEC).

The Arakan Front Party led by Dr. Aye Maung, a renowned Rakhine politician, has submitted the party registration for regional base.

Another Rakhine party known as the Arakan National Party (ANP) has not yet decided to run for the general election or not, according to the party chairman Thar Tun Hla.
