Taunggyi Tazaungdaing fire balloon festival returns after 3-year break

Taunggyi Tazaungdaing fire balloon festival will be held from November 21 to 27 at Awayar Fire Balloon field. The festival returns in order to save traditional and cultural heritage after three years consecutive break, according to Southern Shan State fire balloon technicians association.

It was held in 2019 the last before Covid-19 pandemic.

“The festival was held in 2019 the last. It couldn’t be held then due to the Covid-19 and also political conflicts. The government instructs to resume the festival this year; so, we all prepare for it,” the source from the association told NP News.

The revival of the lantern festival is to ensure preserving the traditions and to promote indigenous social economies, as well as to develop and promote local/foreign tourism.
