Myanmar’s corn price declines upon decreased demand of China

As per information from Mandalay wholesales center, corn price is continuously downsizing due to decrease demands from China and pause of corn export from Myanmar.

Amid of declining external demands for Myanmar’s corn, newly harvested corn from Shan State and middle Myanmar massively enter into the domestic market. Therefore, corn price is continuously decreasing in the local market.

An official from the Myanmar Corn Industrial Association, “If we can export corn to Thailand, the price will be rising again. Otherwise, it will be decreasing. No one afford to buy our corn with high price like Thailand.”

According to the association, Myanmar exported a total of 1.5 million tons of corn up to August of 2023-24 FY. A total of 60 percent of corn exports were sent to Thailand; other countries involve China, India, Philippine and Bangladesh.
